What this actually is

The programme

Built around menstrual health, fertility and perimenopause, with physicians specialised in the Ayurvedic obstetric and gynaecological branch. Female therapists throughout as standard rather than on request.

The therapy schedule genuinely moves around your cycle — some treatments are contraindicated during menstruation and others are timed to specific phases — which is why the cohort is capped at ten and departures are fixed.

Intensity: Moderate — you will notice it. Every programme here carries this line, because "restorative" and "demanding" are sold with the same photographs.

Read this part twice

Who this is for, and who it is wrong for

Read the right-hand column as carefully as the left. It is the half that decides whether this is a good fortnight or a wasted one, and it is published before the price for that reason.

Book this if

  • Irregular, painful or newly changed cycles that have been investigated
  • Perimenopausal sleep, mood and temperature disruption
  • Fertility, as a complement to whatever your own clinic is doing
  • Anyone who would simply prefer a women-only cohort

Do not book this if

  • Pregnancy — a different and much gentler programme applies
  • Anyone mid-cycle in an IVF protocol; timing matters and we will ask you to come before or after
  • Undiagnosed bleeding. See a gynaecologist first — we will say so and decline

The shape of it

Day by day

Days shift according to how you respond — that is the point of a daily review. This is the structure, not a timetable.

Assessment

Days 1–3

A long history including a cycle diary and any existing investigations, plus pathology on arrival.

  • Cycle-phase mapping
  • Arrival bloods
  • Individual diet set

Treatment

Days 4–11

Abhyanga, udvartana or pizhichil according to constitution, uttara basti where indicated, and specific preparations. The order shifts with your cycle.

  • Cycle-timed therapies
  • Herbal preparations
  • Daily physician review

Protocol

Days 12–14

Three months of preparations and a routine mapped onto your own cycle, with a follow-up at eight weeks.

  • Three-month protocol
  • Eight-week follow-up
  • Written report for your own gynaecologist

A day, hour by hour

What a Tuesday actually looks like

Four to five hours are fixed, and the schedule moves with your cycle rather than the diary.

  1. Wake and warm water
  2. Yoga, adapted to cycle phaseRestorative during menstruation, fuller through the follicular phase.
  3. ConsultationWith one of the two women physicians. Ten minutes, every day.
  4. Breakfast
  5. Therapy blockAbhyanga, udvartana or pizhichil as prescribed, with a female therapist throughout.
  6. Lunch
  7. Free, or a group sessionTwice weekly there is a teaching session on cycle physiology with the physician.
  8. Second therapy or steam
  9. Dinner, then the beach

Where you stay

Carnoustie Ayurveda & Wellness Resort

A large beachfront Ayurvedic resort on the Alappuzha coast, recognised as much for its environmental design as for its treatment.

Palms leaning over the Kerala backwaters
Carnoustie Ayurveda & Wellness ResortMararikulam, Marari beach · India

It is a resort with an Ayurveda hospital inside it rather than the other way round, and that is the trade: more comfort and more people, slightly less of the clinical austerity that makes Palakkad work. For a first Kerala programme that trade is usually the right one.

Who looks after you

Supervision, by qualification and number

You will not find a physician's name on this site. Staff move, and a page that names one is a page that quietly goes out of date — worse, it invites you to book a person no house can promise will be on shift. Assignment is made on arrival, from your examination, at every serious property here.

Clinical supervision
Resident BAMS physicians, with the programme led by one qualified in prasuti tantra and stri roga — the obstetrics and gynaecology branch of Ayurvedic medicine.
The team around you
A dedicated female therapist pair for the whole stay, which for this programme is not a preference but a requirement.
Consultations
Daily, with arrival and departure examinations and a six-week video follow-up.
Your consultation is with our clinical desk, not a salesperson. The free call before you book is about whether this programme is right for you at all — and often enough it ends with a recommendation to go shorter, later, or somewhere we do not sell.

Counted, so you can compare

What is actually in it

Most of this industry publishes inclusions as a bulleted list, which cannot be compared between two programmes at two prices. These can.

  • 30+hours of therapy

Including the specific uttara basti and abhyanga protocols the programme is built on.

  • 14physician consultations

With a physician qualified in the women's-health branch, daily.

  • 2kitchens on site

The Ayurvedic one you will eat from, and a separate a la carte one for a companion who is not in treatment. It is why this house suits couples.

  • 3months of preparations

Dispensed at departure with a written protocol.

The money

Prices, by season and occupancy

Both occupancies in every band, before you enquire rather than after. Sole occupancy is not half a double and never has been — publishing only the sharing rate quotes the minority of this market and surprises the rest.

The length the cycle-based protocols are written for.

Prices per person by season and occupancy
SeasonSharingSingle
Low seasonJune to SeptemberUS$2,220US$2,670
ShoulderOctober, November, April and MayUS$2,520US$3,020
High seasonDecember to MarchUS$2,920US$3,520
  • Low season. The monsoon — and in Kerala the monsoon is the treatment season. Humidity keeps the channels receptive to oil, the air is cool, and the houses are empty. The cheapest months are also the most effective ones, which almost never happens.
  • Shoulder. Post-monsoon October and November are excellent and busier. April and May are hot enough that we would steer you elsewhere in the year unless the dates are fixed.
  • High season. Dry, bright, and what the brochures photograph. It is a perfectly good fortnight and it is a less effective one, at about a quarter more.

What the price is. Per person for fourteen nights, including the room, prescribed meals, all therapies, medicines during the stay, preparations to take home and return airport transfers. A companion not on a programme can be added at a room rate. Flights quoted separately.

Illustrative, and held for seven days once we have quoted you in writing. Nothing on this site costs more for booking it through us.

Questions

The ones we are actually asked

Can Ayurveda treat PCOS or endometriosis?
It can help with symptoms for some people and it does not cure either. Both need a gynaecologist, and this programme is designed to sit alongside that care rather than replace it — which is why we send a written report to your own doctor.
