Somebody who wants the medicine and has understood that the medicine is the holiday. Forty years of European guests have come back to the same fortnight here, and the house is built around them rather than around a first-time visitor looking for a resort.

Why this house has the reputation it has
- Founded by the Mathew family in the mid-1980s, long before “wellness resort” was a category. Sources differ on the exact year — the property says 1985, others 1990 — so we give the decade rather than pick one.
- Classified by Kerala Tourism under the state Ayurveda scheme, with resident BAMS physicians and an on-site pharmacy rather than bought-in preparations.
- A returning European clientele that books the same fortnight year after year — which in this field is worth more than any award shortlist.
- Cliff-top gardens above Chowara beach, with the treatment wing separate from the guest rooms — a small thing that changes the tone of a stay considerably.

Who is actually here
Resident BAMS physicians on site, with an on-site pharmacy compounding preparations rather than buying them in. Therapists work in pairs and are assigned to you for the whole stay rather than rostered daily — which matters more than most guests expect, because the fourth abhyanga with somebody who knows your body is a different treatment from the first.
We do not publish clinicians' names anywhere on this site. They move, which makes a named page quietly untrue, and naming one invites you to book a person no house can promise will be on shift — assignment is made on arrival, from your examination. What is worth knowing is how many there are and what they hold.
