The short version
Who this house is for
Somebody drawn to the Balinese tradition itself rather than to a spa version of it, and who wants a small house — bamboo, riverside, plant-based — where the healing sessions are the reason to be there rather than an amenity.
The signature
Balinese healing sessions with named practitioners, paired with yoga, water purification and a plant-based kitchen.
The setting
Ubud, and what is practised here
A temple on the water in central Bali — Ubud Green hills in the interior — Ubud A held posture, practised indoors — Ubud Yoga, practised at this house
These photographs show Ubud and the disciplines practised at this house. They are not photographs of the property — we would rather show you the place honestly than dress a stock picture up as a room you have not been sold.
What it is known for
Why this house has the reputation it has
- Opened in 2010 with Balinese healing as the organising principle rather than an add-on, working with local practitioners in the usada tradition.
- Bamboo architecture on the Ayung that became a reference point for the whole sustainable-luxury category in Asia.
- Plant-based cuisine that is treated as part of the programme rather than a dietary restriction.
- Small enough that the practitioner relationships are real rather than rostered.
What we would tell you on the phone
Balinese healing is not a regulated discipline and it is not medicine; what is on offer here is a respectful, well-mediated encounter with a living tradition, and you should go with that expectation rather than a clinical one. Stays are short by the standards of this site — this is a retreat, not a cure.
Your accommodation
The rooms, and which one to ask for
- 01
Riverside suite
Bamboo construction on the Ayung, with an open-air bathroom and a river you can hear from the bed.
- 02
Riverfront pool suite
The same with a private plunge pool.
Categories and names are as published by the property and are confirmed in writing at the quote. Where we would take a different room from the one the programme is quoted in, the note says so.
Wellness at Fivelements Retreat Bali
Who is actually here
Balinese healers working in the usada tradition alongside the resort’s own therapists. The house is small enough that the relationships are real rather than rostered, which is the difference between this and a hotel spa offering a Balinese menu.
We do not publish clinicians' names anywhere on this site. They move, which makes a named page quietly untrue, and naming one invites you to book a person no house can promise will be on shift — assignment is made on arrival, from your examination. What is worth knowing is how many there are and what they hold.
What the building contains

At the table
Eating here
On a prescribed programme the food is part of the treatment rather than a choice — which is worth knowing before you arrive expecting a wine list.
- Sakti Dining Room
Entirely plant-based, largely raw, and one of the very few kitchens in this category good enough to be a destination in itself.
