We would talk you out of it

Baden-Baden. Late spring and early autumn give the Lichtentaler Allee gardens, the Festspielhaus season and mild walking weather without August heat or the deep grey of a Rhine-valley winter. The baths themselves are indoors and open all year, so a January cure is perfectly possible — it is the walking half of the prescription that suffers.

Asked and answered

Questions we actually get

Is the nudity really unavoidable?
At the Friedrichsbad, yes — it is textile-free and mostly mixed. The Caracalla baths next door are swimwear except on the upper sauna floor, so a fortnight here is perfectly possible without ever entering the Friedrichsbad. We would still gently encourage the full circuit once.
What does a thermal cure actually do?
The best-supported effect is on osteoarthritic and chronic musculoskeletal pain, with modest but real improvements that persist for some months. Beyond that the claims thin out quickly. The daily structure, walking and sleep probably do as much as the water — which is not an argument against going, only against expecting a miracle.

Not sure this is the right list?

Tell us what is actually wrong and we will shortlist three houses — or tell you that Germany is the wrong answer, which happens about one enquiry in six.
